Hospices have long been providing quality care and will soon be sharing their quality performance with the public. They also have had a quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) condition of participation since 2008. What has been learned from the hospice quality reporting program (HQRP) and QAPI that can be applied to future quality initiatives? How is the HQRP different than QAPI, but also integral to improved care processes and outcomes? CMS plans a Hospice Compare website for public reporting of hospice quality information in summer 2017, and is considering a comprehensive patient assessment instrument. Learn the similarities and differences between HQRP and QAPI; what is currently known about public reporting and the future of hospice quality initiatives; and how best to prepare.
