PALM COAST – Anyone interested in volunteering with Florida Hospital HospiceCare is invited to attend a “Hospice 101” informational meeting on May 5 at 10 a.m. at Florida Hospital Flagler, Classroom D, 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast.

Since 1996, Florida Hospital HospiceCare volunteers have played an integral role and function as part of the interdisciplinary team. Volunteers provide a variety of services, including: staffing a shift at inpatients units, giving a much needed break to a patient’s caregiver, offering companionship and a listening ear, running an errand, offering spiritual and emotional support, and more.

Those who choose to work directly with patients and families must complete a training course comprised of 21 classroom hours. Classes are conducted in three, seven-hour sessions. Volunteers who assist with work that does not directly involve patients receive a level of orientation and training that is appropriate for their duties.  A minimum commitment of one year is required and eligibility to pass a background clearance via electronic fingerprinting.
