A core principle of hospice care is that people are multidimensional beings.  An important part of this concept is that physical pain is also a multidimensional experience and is best managed by a skilled interdisciplinary team.  Are you a social worker or chaplain who thinks pain management is outside your scope of practice?  It’s not!  This second webinar of the series will present the areas of pain and symptom management that call for skillful assessment and intervention of both social workers and chaplains.  It will also examine the necessary skills for comprehensive interventions.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The relationship between multidimensionality and inter/transdisciplinary practice as it applies to the notion that “we are all responsible for all of the goals of care”
  • Skills and interventions social workers and chaplains can use to address pain, symptom management, and related suffering
    • Mindfulness techniques that address a variety of emotions
    • CBT techniques specifically for depression, helplessness, and hopelessness
    • How to apply motivational interviewing techniques in situations where what people say isn’t consistent with their actions
  • Working with others in the organization to understand expanded roles, duties, responsibilities, and skill sets
  • TAKE-AWAY TOOLKIT
    • Handout with additional lecture notes
    • Extensive resource list for information on the application of skills to specific situations
