The American Psychological Association (APA) defines trauma as “…an emotional response to a terrible event” and these responses can include “unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea.”  Hospice and palliative care providers often witness these symptoms from patients and family members upon hearing an illness is terminal.

This webinar will explore the various forms of trauma, from sudden preoccupations with certain events to varying degrees of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  We will discuss the critical role of social workers and chaplains as team coaches and guides in the treatment of patients and families, as well as all team members’ roles in providing support to colleagues, staff, and our communities when traumatizing or horrific events occur.
