This webinar will expound on the details of the Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) Model focusing on the Hospice Benefit Component. Until recently, Medicare Advantage has traditionally covered home health patients, but never hospice. The VBID demonstration began January 1, 2021. There are 19 Medicare Advantage Organizations participating in 2023 and even more expected in 2024. In addition to hospice care, there is an expansion of palliative care services that will be offered to patients through the MAOs. This webinar will review the coverage differences for in-network versus out-of-network providers. It will also review the CMS requirements for MAOs to provide beneficiaries with broad access to the complete original Medicare hospice benefit.
The PEPPER (Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report) is the primary source of data used to determine whether a hospice will be subject to Medicare medical review. Gathered strictly from processed claims information, the PEPPER is heavily weighted in this decision. Many of the targets calculated within the PEPPER give hospices insight into claim details that may have been overlooked and caused calculation errors. Hospices should be aware of the impact of their PEPPER data! This session will cover key elements in the PEPPER targets and how to determine whether improvements are needed. All new elements implemented with the April 2023 release will be reviewed.
Compliance is essential when it comes to a well-run agency. This jam-packed series will take a deep dive into the Home Health Conditions of Participation (CoPs). Understanding and meeting CoPs can be daunting. Industry expert Diane Link will tackle this overwhelming task by breaking down the lengthy and somewhat vague CoPs into manageable sections that build off each other. The first webinar will review compliance basics and organizational requirements. The second will cover clinical requirements and preparing your agency for survey. Lastly, the third webinar will address QAPI and the survey process.
Infection control and prevention are critical aspects of delivering quality care. In an environment of value-based care where rehospitalization rates matter, it is essential for healthcare agencies to integrate comprehensive surveillance within the infection control and prevention program. As the public health emergency ends, it is critical to implement a thorough program for survey readiness. This webinar will cover the requirements, the process, trends, data and observations to monitor, and what to implement for patients and staff. Participants will learn how to integrate that data into their agency’s QAPI program and will receive a sample infection control template.
Move beyond supportive services and towards more skillful approaches for both people in your care and their family members at high-risk. Learn how to determine which interventions fall within your licensing and scope of practice and which do not. This webinar will examine methods to translate assessments and risk assessments into methods to “ensure that bereavement services reflect the needs of the bereaved,” as required by the CoPs. It will focus on working through common and potentially challenging situations using evidence-based counseling techniques and interventions that fit within hospice and palliative care bereavement services.

Today’s healthcare climate continues to see an exodus of experienced leadership. As leaders leave, agencies lose years of knowledge and wisdom related to regulations, compliance, quality control, management, clinical skills, and overall operations. By mentoring future leaders from within, the agency can preserve and build upon the existing knowledge and skill sets of current staff members. This webinar will address core competencies for leaders and mentors such as self-knowledge, strategic vision, risk taking, creativity, interpersonal communication effectiveness, and inspiration. It will review the goals and objectives a mentoring program should have. Learn how to identify potential leaders from within, what effective mentor/leader relationships look like, what program options are available, and when to implement a mentorship plan.
