It will detail the necessary steps to build a successful QAPI program. The webinar will also review how to develop action plans and PIPs to ensure an effective program. Nationally there is considerable confusion about support versus counseling and therapy (or psychotherapy). Some people may say, "We don't do counseling" or "We do counseling with a small ‘c’." Neither of these claims is accurate since Medicare specifically requires that spiritual counseling be provided if the person chooses to accept these services. This is the second webinar in a three-part series. It will address the requirements and qualifications to provide spiritual counseling. You’ll learn theoretical frameworks that are applicable to the work spiritual caregivers do. Methods to conduct and translate spiritual assessments into best-practice interventions will also be covered.
Hospice 101 will take your agency through the hospice process and basics while highlighting eligibility, which is the top reason for medical review audits and denials. The webinar will explain who is eligible for the Medicare hospice benefit, admission documentation requirements, and how to support and maintain ongoing eligibility. The use of LCDs to help with documentation best practices to support eligibility in high-risk areas will be covered in detail. It will review the NOE and patient addendum of non-covered services, and how to correctly complete these forms. In addition, the four levels of care and required documentation, hospice admission paperwork, and the certification process will be covered.
Best practices call for strategic records management programs, complete with comprehensive records retention policy and procedures. Failure to safeguard PHI (protected health information) and EPHI (electronic protected health information) could lead to HIPAA investigations, financial penalties, and disgruntled patients. Mismanagement of business records, including PII (personally identifiable information) and ESI (electronically stored information), could trigger costly lawsuits, damaged reputations, and decreased revenues. You can’t afford to leave records retention to chance. Compliance with federal/state laws and HIPAA’s privacy and security rules is mandatory. Attend this program to learn best practices-based strategies for effective records management. Participants will receive valuable tools, including a sample records retention policy, records retention guidelines, and an informative white paper to help your organization manage records, minimize risks, and maximize compliance.
Distress is defined as ‘extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain’ according to Oxford Languages. It is critical to respond skillfully and directly when people are suffering or in distress. Medicare is clear that we are to provide spiritual counseling, and spiritual anguish is an example where supportive interventions are generally not an adequate response. This is the third webinar in a three-part series. It will explore methods to assess both spiritual distress and suffering. It will utilize and apply counseling techniques and interventions from the previous webinar Counseling Techniques & Interventions for Spiritual Caregivers to common hospice scenarios and potentially challenging situations. Key concepts from trauma-informed care to address trauma-related distress will also be incorporated.
The governing body plays a significant role in agency oversight. Yet its duties and responsibilities are frequently misunderstood and cited during surveys. This webinar will go through the regulatory requirements and member recommendations. It will review legal authority, overall management, operational responsibilities, quality assessments, and performance improvement responsibilities of the governing body. Potential gaps and evaluating effectiveness will also be addressed.
