Last fall, the Court of Appeals upheld the Department of Labor’s decision to eliminate the use of the companionship services exemption by third-party employers. During this same period, the Department of Labor also proposed to update the white collar exemptions. These exemptions have been relied upon by hospice employers to limit paid overtime. This is important for hospice providers, because labor costs are their most significant expense. As reimbursement continues to decline, providers must be even more careful to control costs. The loss of these exemptions has left providers wondering what to do.

This webinar will address the importance of the changes to the companionship services exemption and how they impact hospice providers, including travel time, minimum wage, and per-visit pay. It will also cover the proposed changes to white collar exemptions, including when they might take effect and what they mean for hospice employers. Compliance strategies will be offered to help providers control labor costs while complying with the changes.
