One way to look at the medical model is through the lens of “diagnose and treat.” In much of health care, this approach is exactly what everyone wants – someone to diagnose physical ailments and then recommend ways to treat them. But the hospice pioneers knew there was a better way to approach end-of-life care. Do people really want someone coming into their lives at this time and diagnosing them? At times, yes. But somehow the medical model has become the prevailing approach to care. Each discipline visits, diagnoses the problems, returns to work, and creates a treatment plan. We can and must do better. This webinar will focus on ways to return to a true person-centered and person-directed approach to care that addresses the issues but then quickly moves beyond that to assist and guide each person toward their best possible experience.
