“Camp MendingHeart” Offers Help to Children Experiencing Grief

Naples, Fla., (April 7, 2016) – On May 14, children ages 5 – 11 who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life are invited to “Camp MendingHeart,” a bereavement day camp offered by Avow. The free session will be held from 9 AM to 2 PM at The Conservancy of Southwest Florida in Naples and include art and outdoor activities, lunch, a boat ride and special remembrance program.

According to Avow children’s bereavement coordinator Raquel Gonzalez, “Camp MendingHeart is a creative and therapeutic program designed to allow children to express feelings, build coping skills and reinforce positive memories of their loved ones.”

Pre-registration and parental consent are required; call Raquel Gonzalez at 239-261-4404 for information or to register.

“Camp MendingHeart” is part of Avow’s Children’s Services. The session is offered free of charge thanks to generous contributions from community supporters. Avow also conducts monthly children’s grief support groups on the first Thursday of each month. Plans are also underway for an overnight camp to be held in the fall. Visit avowcares.org/childrens-services for more details.
